Why should I care about light?

Light! It’s an incredibly important part of our world, and experts are quickly realizing that how we light our homes and workplaces can have a dramatic impact on our lives.

When building or renovating homes, there is a lot of time spent on picking paint, flooring, counter tops, art, furniture and more. Yet most of us spend little time thinking about how we light it. When you get a color or fabric sample, what is the first thing you do? Go over to the window and see what it looks like in the sun! Why? Because this is the best source of light there is. 

Here in Edmonton, for much of the year (6 months or so) we have very little daylight during the time we’re at home. The generic pot lights included with most builds just don’t do the job well, the quality of light is poor and the colors in your home are drab. We may not notice because, sadly, we are used to it. But there are solutions out there if you are willing to take the time to look. There are pot lights and other lighting fixtures that come very close to recreating the quality of light from the sun.

Go one step further and we get into something called “human centric lighting.” This mimics the color of sunrise and sunset and gives natural variation to the light in your home, just like if you were in nature.  It can enhance art, woods, food, effectively anything with variation in color. Using this system we can make the grain of your wood table stand out, that amazing piece of art pop even more than it did in the showroom, food look more appetizing, and the general appearance of your home so much better.
